Audi reports best U.S. February sales in its history; 14th consecutive record-setting month

  • New vehicle sales up 10% vs. February 2011, and an increase of 14.9% YTD growth compared to 2011
  • Sales propelled by demand for top two premium categories, representing more than 25% of the sales mix, and strong TDI® clean diesel sales
  • Certified Pre-Owned sales of 2,865 vehicles marks second-best February on record, an increase of 11.2% over the same period in 2011

Audi reported its 14th straight record-setting month of sales with 8,531 luxury vehicles sold in February 2012. The results surpassed the prior February record set in 2011 by 778 vehicles. Closing in on a promising first quarter, year-over-year vehicle sales increased 10% over February 2011, and recorded 14.9% year-to-date growth compared to 2011.

“Audi continues to lead the high-end sector of the luxury car market in the U.S. Our superior lineup boasts the most technologically advanced and exceptionally engineered vehicles that Audi has ever produced,” said Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen. “We are optimistic that Audi is on track to make 2012 another banner year for the company.”

February results were buoyed by strong performance in the top two premium categories, with sales for the Audi A6 increasing 63.6% over 2011, and continued strong sales of 584 vehicles for the design-forward Audi A7, which was launched in the U.S. market in April 2011.

Other highlights include:

  • February 2012 ranks as the best February in Audi of America history, eclipsing the previous record set last year.
  • 2012 Audi A6 sales up 63.6%, compared to February 2011.
  • Audi A3 sales up 21.5%, compared to February 2011.
  • Sales of Audi Q5 increased 14%, compared to February 2011; Audi Q7 inventory extremely limited due to low supply.
  • Audi TT sales up 15.2% vs. February 2011, boosted by increased demand for the Audi TT Coupe.
  • Sales mix for Audi TDI clean diesel models finished the month at 53.9% for the A3 TDI on 253 TDI models sold, and 36.7% for the supply restricted Q7 TDI on 137 models sold.
  • Audi Certified pre-owned sales of 2,865 vehicles mark an increase of 11.2%, compared to the same period in 2011; Southern and Western regions set new all-time records for February.
  • For the record-setting month of February 2012, three Audi models recorded year-over-year sales increases of 15% or more, including the Audi A3, the Audi A6, and the Audi TT models.

Trade Secret’s Audi Authorized Collision Repair Center certification comes after a $200,000 investment in facilities, training, machinery and tooling made specifically for the repair of aluminum Audi’s, specifically the R8, A8 and the TT. Aluminum repair requires near hospital-like sterile conditions to avoid the cross contamination of steel and aluminum.

Audi Super Bowl Spot to Highlight Signature LED Technology and 2013 Audi S7

– Audi revealed details of its highly-anticipated Super Bowl advertisement, slated to run in the first quarter of the big game on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012. In the upcoming 60-second spot, the brand’s signature LED headlights will take center stage along with the new 2013 Audi S7 sedan. The story theme remains undisclosed.

“With LED, there’s no mistaking an Audi. Since pioneering the technology nearly ten years ago, LED lights have established the Audi persona have become one of the most recognizable features on the road,” said Scott Keogh, Chief Marketing Officer, Audi of America. “Like our LEDs, this year’s Super Bowl spot will be unmistakably Audi.”

At 5,500 Kelvin, Audi LED headlights are the closest re-creation of daylight available, providing numerous safety benefits, such as helping drivers’ eyes perceive more contrast experience less strain. Traditional lights take 0.2 seconds to engage, while LEDs are immediately activated making driving safer, faster. In addition to safety, LED lights save resources by using 50-percent less power required from the alternator – which in turn reduces the load put on the vehicle’s engine – and can last the lifetime of a vehicle.

In last year’s “Release the Hounds” spot, Audi became the first Super Bowl advertiser in history to tag an ad with a Twitter hashtag. The adventurous spot, featuring the new Audi A8 flagship sedan, was a parody of individuals attempting to escape from the confines of old luxury as portrayed in a luxury prison. The spot also featured a comical cameo by legendary musician Kenny G.

In 2010, Audi’s Super Bowl ad showcased a soundtrack created by rock legends Cheap Trick and featured the A3 TDI “Green Car of the Year” clean diesel vehicle, showing how easy being green can be. The brand’s 2009 spot featured actor Jason Statham in a series of high-speed chase scenes involving luxury competitors, sending the message that luxury is evolving. Audi recognizes 113 dealers with 2010 Magna Society awards including Boardwalk Audi

HERNDON, Va. — Audi identified its top performing U.S. dealerships throughout 2010, a year that saw the brand and its retail partners post record sales results.

Magna Society program honors the best of the best among all U.S. Audi dealers– To earn the award, dealers must meet customer service and business objectives– The recognition fits alongside growth of Audi exclusive dealerships in the U.S.

In all, 113 Audi dealerships earned the 2010 Magna Society recognition by providing superlative customer service while achieving strong overall business performance.

Audi established the Magna Society to recognize U.S. dealerships that stand out as the best of the best. To qualify, dealerships can’t just meet or exceed sales targets. They must also demonstrate they are maintaining a solid financial foundation, merit high customer satisfaction scores and show their facilities and staffs represent the progressive Audi culture.

“Audi and its dealer partners are building on record sales results by further enhancing the overall experience customers have with our brand,” said Mark Del Rosso, Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America.  ”To sustain that momentum, it’s essential to deliver a solid business model and a consumer-oriented culture. These Magna Society dealerships have done exactly that.”

The annual Magna Society awards fit with long-range plans established by Audi and its franchise partners to make Audi facilities more exclusive. The number of dealership locations exclusively selling Audi models is expected to increase by the end of 2011 to 151 in the U.S. from 15 exclusive dealerships operating in 1999.

Between 2008 and 2010, Audi dealers completed $170.8 million in facilities improvements. Another $35.75 million of new or improved facilities (not including land and personnel costs) are scheduled to come online in 2011.

By the end of 2011, 96% of Audi sales in the U.S. are expected to come from exclusive or brand-dedicated facilities.  An Audi exclusive location sells only Audi models. A brand-dedicated facility sells only Audi cars and SUVs, but is adjacent to other franchises.

As vice president of sales and marketing for Boardwalk Auto Group, Brian Ongaro possesses those uncommon capabilities.

Brian Ongaro joined Boardwalk Auto Group on the heels of directing a Columbus, Ohio-based dealership group that included Lamborghini among its nameplates. But like Boardwalk Founder Scott Ginsburg, the weight of Ongaro’s experience was earned in broadcast media. After joining Ginsburg at Chancellor Media Corporation in 1997, Ongaro was appointed executive vice president and market manager of AMFM, Inc.’s station group in Dallas–the nation’s fifth largest market in terms of revenue. In 2002, he was tapped as the executive vice president for CBS Radio, overseeing their large markets radio stations in the western region.

With 28 years in broadcast management, Ongaro brings a wealth of organizational management and innovative marketing experience to Boardwalk. “I’m going to examine the entire Boardwalk sales process to determine how we can make it a greater overall experience for each customer,” he says.

His focus will be on the abundance of rapidly developing opportunities in the digital space, especially in social networks connected via portable devices. He will also be focused on reputation-marketing strategies to rapidly address customer concerns. “There are a lot of other unique opportunities that haven’t been adequately explored yet,” he adds.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, and a graduate of Ohio State University, Ongaro’s business philosophy is focused on taking care of customers. Ongaro wants to make Boardwalk Auto Group the first place people think of when they are considering buying or servicing their car. Exceeding expectations is the goal. He also wants to be recognized as one of the best places to work in DFW.
